Loan Operations Associate

Classification: Exempt

Location: Oakland, CA or Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid, with periodic in-office meetings)

Reports to: Portfolio Manager

Location: Oakland, CA (PCV has office space in Downtown Oakland. This role is largely remote, with the expectation that the team will intentionally get together several times a year to collaborate)

Compensation: $71,000-$75,000, commensurate with experience, plus generous benefits

The Role
Are you a driven individual who is passionate about building a more equitable society? If so, please consider joining Pacific Community Ventures as a Loan Operations Associate. As a mission-driven lender, we invest in diverse small businesses across the state of California to help them grow and strengthen their practices. You’ll work with our team to manage the organization’s growing portfolio of loans for California small businesses, focused on expanding access to capital and advising for Black and Brown entrepreneurs.

Key Responsibilities:
Support loan closings and ongoing loan servicing for PCV’s small business loan portfolio, including:

  • Assist with collecting, reviewing, preparing, and processing loan closing documents during the closing process
  • Perform the onboarding of loans into the loan management system (Downhome)
  • Enter, review, and maintain accurate and up-to-date loan records in the loan management system
  • Respond to borrower inquiries related to loan documentation or status, interest statements, repayment schedules, payoff requests, and other related matters
  • Conduct outreach to past-due borrowers to facilitate payment arrangements and resolve outstanding balances
  • Handle loan payment collections, including generating billing statements, posting NACHA files, working with borrowers to process irregular payments, and coordinating loan payoffs
  • Assist with preparing documentation for loan modifications, guaranty claims, collections, and charge-offs, as assigned
  •  File UCC financing statements and amendments
  • Assist with audits, reporting, and loan reviews, including financial spreading, risk assessments, and monitoring of deal triggers/covenants
  • Contribute to documenting, maintaining, and improving loan operations workflows
  • Support portfolio reporting and data requests, as needed
  • Participate in cross-functional projects within the organization
  • Grow industry knowledge by attending events and developing strong working relationships with clients and partners
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics or other related field or equivalent work experience with an interest in finance/community development
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and Word; experience with Downhome Solutions and Tableau a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, attention to detail, and customer service skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter willing to take initiative, and also works well in a team
  • Embody PCV values of coming from a place of “Yes,” having empathy, being transparent, and maintain a sense of humor!
  • Spanish speaker strongly preferred.

Computer Software:
Microsoft Office to include Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
Tableau and Salesforce a plus

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl or bend, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
  • High mental and visual attention required for planning difficult work methods and sequences to obtain size, shape, or physical qualities of product. AND/OR Extremely close visual attention such as making delicate adjustments to control high speed operations to exercise very precise muscular control.
