Fit 4 Life NYCFit 4 Life has since reached a place where they could optimistically look forward and plan for growth. Today, Fit 4 Life NYC works with more than 30 schools and nonprofits.
With schools cutting back on recess and physical education classes, students around New York City were left without opportunities to be active and healthy. In addition, active play, character development, and healthy competition were starting to become less of a focus in most school-day and after-school physical activity programs. To address these challenges, Emil Ramnarine started Fit 4 Life NYC.
Fit 4 Life NYC, a certified B Corporation and Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program alumni, strives to improve kids’ quality of life through sports, fitness, and health for all New Yorkers and works to combat childhood obesity especially in underserved communities. Emil Ramnarine started for Fit 4 Life NYC in 2003, and today he partners with schools and nonprofits throughout the city. Hiring from these same underserved communities, Fit 4 Life has grown to 7 full-time and 63 part-time trainers and staff members.
When our team first paired Emil with his advisor Michael Wiatr, CEO & founder of a digital marketing agency, Fit 4 Life was going through a rough patch and the future of his business was unknown. Being matched with Michael was a turning point for Emil and his company. With Michael’s support, Emil made the necessary steps to turn his business around and shared that Pacific Community Ventures “…came along at the right time and helped us turn our business around. Michael forced me to make tough decisions based on the outline and execution plan we created. If I hadn’t made these decisions, my business probably would have collapsed.”
Fit 4 Life has since reached a place where they could optimistically look forward and plan for growth. Today, Fit 4 Life NYC works with more than 30 schools and nonprofits and continuously works on its strategy to engage the right clients and grow their organization.
The efforts and success of Fit 4 Life have not gone unnoticed – Emil’s business was recently recognized by the City of New York as an honoree in the 2015 Best for NYC Campaign in both the Community Category and Best for NYC Overall Category.
