Reporting to the Chief Lending Officer, the Associate Director of Lending will play a key leadership role in advancing and scaling PCV’s small business lending strategy across California. The Associate Director will help manage and grow a loan portfolio of approximately $60 million, contribute to PCV’s 2030 growth goals, and support lending initiatives that include statewide programs, place-based funds, and climate-focused capital. This role combines lending expertise, people leadership, business development, operational excellence, and technology-enabled innovation. The Associate Director will also partner with PCV’s Data team and organizational leadership to strengthen the use of technology, data, automation, and artificial intelligence across lending operations while maintaining sound credit practices and a strong borrower experience.

PCV is entering an important period of growth as we expand our lending reach across California and work toward ambitious 2030 goals for capital deployment and small business impact. Our growing portfolio includes statewide lending as well as place-based and specialized funds designed to respond to the needs of entrepreneurs and communities that have historically faced
barriers to accessing capital. As PCV continues to scale, we are also investing in the technology, data infrastructure, automation, and responsible use of AI needed to make our lending operations
more efficient, responsive, and impactful. The Associate Director of Lending will help translate this growth strategy into execution by strengthening lending operations, developing the team,
expanding partnerships, and working across Lending, Data, Finance, Portfolio Management, and Business Advising to build the next generation of PCV’s lending platform.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, and develop members of the lending team, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance oversight to achieve lending, portfolio, operational, and impact goals.
• Support the successful implementation and growth of PCV’s statewide, place-based, climate, and other specialized lending initiatives, ensuring that appropriate lending, portfolio, compliance, and impact data is accurately captured and available for organizational reporting and decision-making.
• Lead and support business development efforts that expand PCV’s statewide lending reach, including representing PCV at industry and community events and building trusted
  relationships with referral partners, community organizations, funders, and prospective borrowers.
• Oversee lending, underwriting, and approval processes to support sound credit decisions, consistent execution, appropriate risk management, and compliance with PCV policies and applicable program requirements.
• Manage the loan underwriting process through closing, partnering with the loan closing lead and Business Advising team to support a smooth transition into post-investment mentorship focused on good jobs and wealth-building outcomes.
• Collaborate with the portfolio management team to monitor and evaluate the performance of the loan portfolio, implementing strategies to optimize portfolio impact and quality.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including borrowers and community partners.
• Identify and lead opportunities to improve lending processes, systems, borrower experience, and product delivery through technology, automation, data, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
• Partner closely with PCV’s Data team and organizational leadership to advance technology and AI initiatives within Lending, including identifying practical use cases, improving workflows, strengthening data quality and accessibility, and supporting the thoughtful adoption of tools that increase organizational effectiveness.
• Help develop and implement scalable lending infrastructure, processes, and technology needed to support continued portfolio growth and PCV’s long-term 2030 objectives.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and analyses to communicate lending performance and trends to stakeholders, including the Board.
• Work closely with the Finance team on Lending/Accounting integration and reporting.
• Help build and promote a just and equitable organizational culture at all levels, and in our work.

Requirements

• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in small business lending, commercial lending, community development finance, underwriting, portfolio management, or a related field, including experience managing or leading significant lending responsibilities.
• Familiar with MS Office Suite with a strong aptitude for learning new computer programs quickly
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing teams while building a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing culture.
• Experience supporting fundraising, capital raising, investor relations, grant-funded initiatives, or other efforts that expand access to capital for small businesses and communities historically underserved by traditional financial institutions.
• Flexibility and comfort with a mission-driven environment, and a small and growing organization
• Fast-learner, who demonstrates humility, openness, transparency, empathy, etc., as consistent with PCV values
• Strong technology aptitude and demonstrated ability to learn, evaluate, and effectively use new platforms, systems, and digital tools.
• Experience using data and technology to improve lending operations, workflows, reporting, decision-making, or customer experience.
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence, automation, or emerging technologies and an ability to identify practical applications within lending and business operations.
• Ability to partner effectively with data and technology professionals to translate business needs into systems, analytics, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate portfolio, lending, and operational data into actionable recommendations.
• Experience working across departments and leading initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, priorities, and organizational functions.
• Experience with CDFIs, mission-driven lending, small business finance, place-based investing, climate finance, or community development is preferred.

This is a hybrid position requiring occasional business travel to PCV’s headquarters in Oakland, team retreats, and conferences throughout California and nationwide. Additional travel may be
required based on business needs.
