National Mentoring Month At PCV

Tamika Otis

With January being National Mentoring Month, it causes me to reflect on all of the mentors I have had in my life and the important role they played. Whether for personal or professional advice, having the benefit of their lived experiences, wisdom, and guidance gave me the confidence needed to begin my journey toward becoming a multipreneur. Their investment into my vision and talents provided me with perspectives I would not have otherwise considered; enabling me to be a well-rounded and successful business owner.

Now, I have the ultimate pleasure of serving as Director of Business Advising for PCV. PCV understands that access to equitable capital in tandem with inclusive cost-free business advising services, exponentially maximizes success rates of the heart and soul of our local communities – its small businesses. Small businesses with a mentor succeed at 2X the national average and create local jobs at 10X the national rate. In 2021 alone PCV provided advising services to more than 1500 diverse business owners across the country. These businesses report a 20% average increase in revenue as a direct result of the mentorship they received.

Our Business Advising platform is about much more than advising. It’s about building community, expanding networks and providing resources to some of the business owners that have been historically disconnected and/or excluded from such resources. The feeling that comes with helping someone manifest their dreams is priceless. And the reward to both mentor and mentee is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

– Tamika Otis, Director of Business Advising
