CalPERSServices: Impact Measurement & Evaluation
Client Type: Pension Fund
Geography: Regional

The Objective

For over a decade, CalPERS, the nation’s largest public pension fund, has engaged Pacific Community Ventures to measure and report on the social and economic impacts of its investments.

The Approach

Pacific Community Ventures works closely with the CalPERS investment office to gather data and conduct analysis on CalPERS in-state public and private investments in global equities, global fixed income, real estate, and infrastructure. Our analysis examines the types of communities and local jobs across the state that CalPERS $25B+ of investment supports.

We also conduct a detailed analysis of CalPERS $1B, California Initiative, a private equity investment strategy focused on supporting the growth of businesses, including women and minority led-firms, and job creation in California’s underserved markets.

Pacific Community Ventures annually prepares two public reports on CalPERS in-state investments and presents key findings to the CalPERS Investment Committee:

  • CalPERS for California
  • CalPERS California Initiative

The Results

Our work enables CalPERS to better understand the scale and breadth of CalPERS’ investments in California and the resulting ancillary benefits of job creation and support of disadvantaged communities.

CalPERS utilizes the reports to engage with government officials and key stakeholders – assisting CalPERS staff in gaining knowledge and establishing collaborative relationships to better accomplish CalPERS investment objectives.
